We originally went with just audio monitor that was rated up to 150m but because we have brick walls it was next to useless with so much static that we couldn't hear our son.
Have to say that for around the same price we bought one of these and it works marvelously, plus we now have video monitoring so can see what is going on, night vision and can even tell what temperature it is in our baby's room.
Worked exactly as described despite being a brick house with a long distance between master bedroom and babies room!!
